Nawaal was a student at Hammersmith Academy when she attended our industry-led Budding Brunels workshop, designed to showcase the range of skills and job roles available across the Construction industry. After the course, we facilitated a work placement. Experiencing the real work environment made Nawaal realise she wanted to follow a career into construction.
Nawaal is now a Civil Engineering Apprentice working on the Thames Tideway Tunnel - London’s new super-sewer, which is urgently needed to modernise the Capital’s sewage system and protect the tidal River Thames from pollution. Nawaal studies one day a week at London Design and Engineering University Technical College.
“When my placement ended, I felt incredibly motivated and eager to do all that’s necessary to work in this field of work in the near future. Construction Youth Trust not only gave me my first exposure to construction, but also continued to support and guide me into the industry.”
